For over 25 years, I have enjoyed a career in functional foods and supplemental nutrition. To make a living impacting the health of others, as well as my own health, is a reward like no other.
I’ve witnessed the health foods industry grow from just few consumers to the masses, and no bigger change was felt than in plant-based offerings. When my team first brought pea protein to the market in the nineties, “plant-based” was essentially unknown. Now it’s a household name.
The growth of the health foods industry has not been all positive. When mainstream food companies entered the health market, they brought along their deceptive marketing tactics and unsavory manufacturing techniques like using unnecessary additives, preservatives, and fillers to increase shelf life. As the product quality dropped, these companies earned exorbitant profits.
Recipes became complex with unrecognizable and artificial additives and preservatives. Many of these additives are not required to be put on a label. Ingredients were sourced with little regard for environmental impact. And the consumer was duped into believing this was good for them.
Admittedly, I tried to keep up and conform to the “more is better” thinking. Ultimately, I realized that my values were at odds with where the industry was trending. So, I gave up my comfortable position as a CEO to start Green Thumb Foods.
As a conscious consumer, you deserve to know exactly what you are feeding your family.
Green Thumb Foods was created to give the consumer back the right to choose what they put in their body. I needed to get back to simpler times and my bet is there are a lot of label readers that feel the same way.
But Green Thumb is not about me. It’s about you. Your food and your choice.

We just don’t need to overly formulate our products with complex ingredients to boost their appeal. Their hype is their thoughtfully selected and simple nutrition.
